Further Notes

LTR - Sat 12/09/1959 - subject to confirmation.

This section of line does not appear to have carried RTS.

The only reference to closure appears in RoCR "14.09.1959 SKEGNESS (Rectory Jn) - BIRMINGHAM (New St.) (Colwick North Jn)" along with P*, which indicates date is LTR, though the date quoted is a Monday, so it is assumed LTR was actually Sat 12/09/1959.

The only services identified that could have used this line are SDS SO 8 50am King's Norton - Skegness and 2 20pm Skegness - King's Norton, both calling at Birmingham (New St.), Burton-on-Trent and Egginton Junction.

Unfortunately it is not possible to confirm from the public timetable exactly which route these trains took between Egginton Junction and Sleaford. Neither is shown as calling at Derby (Friargate) or any other intermediate station, but it would make sense routing these trains over this line to avoid Nottingham (Midland) on a busy summer Saturday. Previous year's timetables indicate that this line through Friargate and Daybrook was used extensively by SDS to/from the East Coast.

The BR (LM) & (ER) summer 1961 timetables show the same trains running via and calling at Egginton Junction, Derby (Friargate) and Nottingham (Victoria). This would be consistent with the closure from 04/04/1960 of the Basford East Jct. - Colwick West Jct. section of line due to subsidence in Mapperley tunnel, necessitating the rerouting of these trains via Bagthorpe Jct.

Any further information welcome, as usual!
