Further Notes

Closure date is LTR - Fri 18/09/1959.

Through service Kettering - Cambridge withdrawn from Mon 15/06/1959. FO service Huntingdon (East) - St. Ives continued until LTR - Fri 18/09/1959. Excursions continued until 1965 - DRS; RPSGB; DSW.

However, B Aug 1959 L224 shows full service, three trains each way week days between Kettering and Cambridge, all but one calling at Godmanchester.

See Kettering (Cambridge Line) Jct. - Huntingdon (East) (excl.).

*RCH EE 1917. The map shows two separate stations on the site of Huntingdon East. Physically they were one station with two platforms serving the GN/GE connection on to the main line and a third serving the MR line to Kettering. It could be argued that the line from Huntingdon South (No.1) Jct. - Huntingdon East Jct. (Mid & Joint Line Jct. on the map) (see RR JN001) constituted a line of route in its own right. There are limits to my pedantry!

At the other end of the line, I have shown the section of line as far as St. Ives (excl.) and not to the junction as it would appear the Huntingdon line platform continued in use for services to Cambridge according to photographic evidence. Perhaps somebody may be able to confirm this?
