N.B. Please bear with me as I recast these sections of line. They are proving to be the most difficult and frustrating to sort out that I have come across due to the myriad opening and closing dates and often vague or incomplete information. I have decided the best way of trying to make sense of these is to combine them as one entry, despite the differing closure dates. I will try to make sense of them in the Notes section.
ACD - Tue 05/05/1970 - PNM 1980 p62. The only service using this line, 2345 Edinburgh/2355 Glasgow (Central) (0545 Wigan (North Western)) - Manchester (Victoria), ran on Sunday night/Monday morning 03 & 04/05/1970 - BLN 152 p49.
RO - Mon 25/05/1998 - line used by 0618 Macclesfield - Glasgow (Central) - RM Nov 1998 p67.
CL - 31/05/1999 - above booked service ceased to run - RM Feb 2000 p57.
Since then the line, along with Parkside No.2/Newton-le-Willows Jct. - Lowton Jct. has continued to be used by RTS, SDS and diversions, making it difficult, if not impossible to identify accurately opening and closure dates. Indeed, it is debatable whether any periods of non-use constitute closure as such.
